About
Quick facts: Manually winding this tower clock takes exactly 15 minutes every morning. It is among the few tower clocks in Valparaiso that still use the original hand-operated mechanism.
Highlights: Every morning at 10 o'clock, the local watchmaker climbs up 70 steps to manually wind the clock. It is the only tower clock in Estonia and South America that has been maintained by the same master for over 15 years.
Insider tips
- Stand directly under the tower at noon to hear the chime echo throughout the whole city.
- Wear comfortable shoes for climbing; the staircase is narrow and steep.
- You will get the best picture from the viewing platform above, not from the base of the tower.
- Avoid Friday afternoon, as that is when most locals and tourists are around.
